From the Ground Up…

Viva La Animación is a story of heart. In 2024, wanting to do more for the Latin animation community, volunteers from across the country came together to support the creation of a new organization with a drive to raise Latin voices in animation. 

Our volunteers came from a variety of backgrounds. Many were students, others were trying to break into the industry. For many, it was their first time leading a team or hosting events. What united them thought was a passion for the Latin animation community and wanting to do something about it. The first Viva La Animación event was a small picnic in NYC where members brought snacks and pastries from their heritages. While the rain forced them to be indoors, it didn’t dampen what they saw VLA could become. Soon enough, members were telling their friends about Viva La Animación, and the community slowly grew.

Led by VLA President Adela Hurtado since its founding, Viva La Animación now has members across the United States and Latin America, with an active online server filled with activities, job opportunities, and resources, monthly virtual panels and workshops with animation professionals, and in-person events in Los Angeles and New York.

Viva La Animación is dedicated to supporting and empowering Latin creatives in animation — from established voices to emerging artists and the next generation of storytellers. Through community, collaboration, and career support, we work to bring Latin experiences to the forefront so they can be seen, heard, and celebrated.
